Support to Open Science
University of Lisbon research and innovation initiatives
- As part of the promotion and opening up of science, the consortium (Online Knowledge Library), subscribed to by ULisboa, negotiated the b-on with publishers, providing more favourable conditions for open access publication for authors affiliated to institutions belonging to the consortium, such as embargo periods, discounts on APCs (Article Processing Charge) and exemption from publication fees.
- As a result of the publication of scientific articles in open access, it should be noted that ULisboa, through its Schools, R&D Units and Associated Laboratories, ensured the highest absolute number of publications in open access in Portugal, resulting in an overall allocation of 24 per cent compared to the total number of publications by Portuguese universities, and an overall allocation of 22 per cent compared to the total number of publications by Portuguese educational institutions, respectively.
- In this context, it is important to ensure correct affiliation, as established by Order no. 235/2016 of 22 December.
- The process of implementing open access publishing with each of the publishers will be kept up to date by the Archive, Documentation and Publications Department, together with the responsible interlocutor for each of the Schools.
ULisboa also provides the scientific community with access to the ULisboa Bibliographic Search Service, a tool that allows you to search all the resources of ULisboa and its Schools through a single access point.
The ULisboa Collective Catalogue allows you to search the collections of the institution's various organic units, spread across its 18 Schools and the University Specialised Units, Museums and the Tropical Scientific Research Institute.
Through its participation in the - ULisboa makes available the Unite! and Manual of Good Practices for Open Science and Innovation.

As part of the National Programme for Open Science and Open Research Data (PNCADAI), ULisboa is developing the iRe:Search Centre, dedicated to supporting open science and, in particular, the management of FAIR research data.
Activities are centred on two main axes:
- Diagnosis of scientific data: survey and analysis of existing data sets at ULisboa, identification of good practices, assessment of alignment with FAIR principles and definition of strategic recommendations, based on five pilot projects representative of the diversity of research data at ULisboa and articulation with other initiatives, namely open data in Public Administration and companies.
- Institutional data policy: drawing up a policy for managing and sharing research data, producing information materials, training actions and creating a technical support channel for the academic community.
This project aims to strengthen open science literacy, promote sustainable data management practices and align ULisboa with national and international standards, favouring alignment with the FAIR principles and boosting research collaboration and impact.
Also available is the new Spring 2025 edition of on research data management from , a partner.
